ABC Names Brown 'Champion of the Merit Shop'

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) presented Congressman Henry E. Brown Jr. (R-SC) with its “Champion of the Merit Shop” award for receiving a voting record of 100% on the association’s priority issues in the 110th Congress. After receiving the award, Congressman Brown made the following statement:

“I am honored to receive such a prestigious award from ABC and I vow to continue to support the construction industry here in Washington with the consistency and resolve that I have in previous years.”

“It is an honor to recognize Congressman Brown for his voting record on issues we feel to be the most significant to the commercial and industrial construction industry,” said Jerry Gorski, 2009 ABC national chairman and president of Gorski Engineering, Collegeville, Pa. “This award gives us an opportunity to positively acknowledge lawmakers who consistently support the merit shop philosophy.”

The “Champion of the Merit Shop” award is a symbol that reflects ABC’s commitment to fair competition and free enterprise. ABC tracks the voting records of all legislators on select legislation as indicative of their support for, or opposition to, issues that are critical to the merit shop and the commercial and industrial construction industry.
