Dedication of new NOAA Chart Honoring Coast Guard Hero, Former Charleston Captain of the Port, Admiral Richard E. Bennis

Congressman Brown joined former Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Loy, Charleston Captain of the Port Michael McAllister, and local dignitaries as they paid respects to late Coast Guard Admiral Richard Bennis. 

 

A former Captain of the Port for Charleston, Admiral Bennis (then Captain) directed the Coast Guard Evacuation of New York after 9/11; he passed away from brain cancer in 2003.  The new NOAA chart marking the entrence to Charleston Harbor will be named in his honor.
