Congressman Henry Brown Votes to Affirm the President's Veto of the Democrat 'Cut and Run' Funding Bill

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Henry E. Brown, Jr. (SC-01) today made the following statement after casting his vote to sustain President Bush's veto of the Defense Supplemental Funding Bill:

"As I pledged in a letter to President Bush last month, I voted to sustain his veto of this misguided legislation.

I would hope that we can get some consensus with the Democrat majority to properly fund the War on Terror.  Such a compromise, however, should be crafted without including a date-certain withdrawal.

By including this provision, the Democrats have undermined the ability of our armed forces to complete their mission in Iraq.  To the terrorists of that region, the majority party has unfurled the white flag of surrender.

I have avoided specific recommendations regarding our strategy in this mission because I believe the military - and not Congress - should be responsible for carrying out these operations."
